OK, there are clearly more places to eat in Charleston, as most cities, than you could possibly visit in one quick trip. However, if you want to hit up a few great ones - follow my lead...
For some reason it has taken me months to put this together but this summer I was in Charleston and had some of the best eating experiences while there so I really wanted to share. Also, my best friend is heading there next month so, Moll, check these places out. ;)
The first is a "dive-bar" called Tattooed Moose. It's the kind of place that doesn't draw a lot of attention from the outside unless you're looking for a cheap drink (which, of course, is honorable all on its own.) The surprise comes from the menu where you can get cheap drinks AND really great eats for cheap on the side of said drinks. We had their hand cut duck fat fries, cilantro lime slaw, and Mike's Famous "Duck Club" with Duck Confit, Apple Smoked Bacon, Smoked Cheddar on Sweet Hawaiian Bread with Garlic Aioli, Lettuce, Tomato, & Red Onion. Go, eat, Thank me later.
The next place I loved for different reasons. It's called FIG and we were able to dress up, eat local, organic, fabulous food and we literally shut the place down. We had such a good time that I didn't stop to take pictures or notes, below is the only picture which doesn't show the food at all but as you can see by my smile, it was fabulous. The Menus change daily based on what is fresh and available and I suggest you also try one of their Negroni gin cocktails before starting your meal.
By the way, if you like gin, as we do, you could stop by The Gin Joint which has some great late night or happy-hour options in a speak-easy setting... we had tequilla and classic gin cocktails.
